ENES fosters the creation of a Centre of Excellence in climate and weather modelling

last modified Jan 30, 2015 04:32 PM

The European community of climate modellers, represented by ENES (via IS-ENES2), and of numerical weather prediction, together with private partners, jointly responded to the H2020-EINFRA-5-2015 call with a proposal on a European Centre of Excellence for computing application on climate and weather modelling: ESiWACE (Excellence in Simulation of Weather and Climate in Europe). The proposed centre, coordinated by Joachim Biercamp (DKRZ), will exploit synergies among all partners and their networks to tackle common scientific and technical challenges. Researchers will be more productive through common strategies and development of models and tools, especially in view of the changing HPC landscape. Centres of Excellence are indicated in the EC Communication on HPC (15.2.2012) as essential establishments to further develop the European HPC ecosystem in scientific domains that are most important for Europe.
