The EU H2020 ESCAPE project brings together numerical weather prediction (NWP), climate and high-performance computing (HPC) communities to develop world-class, extreme-scale computing capabilities for European operational NWP and future climate models. One of the challenges is to execute complex state-of-the-art models of the atmosphere within tight production schedules.

The goal of this training, which can be attended both in person and via web streaming) is to introduce young scientists into NWP relevant topics as well as modern computational physics and energy efficient computing. During this two-day training, undergraduates will get familiar with ESCAPE dwarfs – fundamental algorithmic building blocks – and recognise why HPC and energy-efficient computations are important. The presented material will be well balanced between theoretical introduction and practical exercises, given by professional NWP and HPC staff. For those unable to travel, remote and live access will be given. This training is a great opportunity to establish professional links with academic staff across Europe for future cooperation.

There is no registration fee; however, those willing to attend the training have to register at http://tinyurl.com/z2po2d7 with first and last name, university and faculty, course studied, interest in NWP/HPC/energy-efficient computations, expectations of this training. You can register either to attend in person or to attend through online streaming.

The training will be held at the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), close to Poznan University of Technology. PSNC is a leading research and computing centre in Poland, innovating and providing high performance and energy-efficient computing, optical networking and advanced applications to enable advances in eScience and engineering.

Register for in-person attendance before 31/01/2017
Register for online access before 15/02/2017
Training schedule – from Monday 27 February 2017 09:00 to Tuesday 28 February 2017 16:00.

The ESCAPE project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 671627.
