Description

The school is devoted to coastal modeling and represents a unique occasion of comparison and dissemination of the most recent experience in the subject. The main goal is to present to the new generation of young researchers the state of the art in coastal modeling and latest development in the field. The school is aimed at researchers, university teachers, engineers, graduate and post graduate students specialized in coastal modeling. It will allow gathering during one week about ten invited speakers and young researchers and engineers from research institutions and universities.

The 5 days will be organized in tutorials and practical classes. The principal topic of the school, ocean modeling, will be enhanced with related topics including data assimilation, turbulence modeling, downscaling methods, open boundaries impacts, OGCM parametrization, biogeochemical coupling and non-hydrostatic modeling, as well as state of the art insights on coastal operational oceanography. In particular, state of the art research from recent national programs will be showed (ANR COMODO, GMMC).

This new 2015 edition will be focused on new generation OGCM models such as non-hydrostatic models, OGCM using super-parametrization, downscaling techniques and MPI calculations. Some of these aspects will again be highlighted in the practical classes, as the feedback from the 2011 edition of the summer school showed a strong interest in these classes from the participants. Two major OGCM will then be presented during the classes : NEMO and ROMS, and two technical classes will provide insights on Parallel calculations (MPI) and numerical downscaling (AGRIF).
